Recently, I have been rereading Brian McClaren’s Naked Spirituality. Some of you may have read it. In any case, I think it is a modern day, practical spiritual guide. It is worth reading again and again. His chapters refer to simple one word, easy to remember prayers: “Here: Thanks: O: Sorry: Help: Please.” That is just the first part. What he writes is based on his personal spiritual journey. Be sure to check out Appendix C Twelve Simple Prayers. As with most books I recommend, you can get a copy from the library, but I think you will want to own it. I don’t buy many books, but I’m glad I have my copy.
Carola and I met him at the Theology and Peace Conference two years ago. I would recommend all of his books. Everything Must Change would be a good one to start with.
Here is his version of he Lord’s Prayer from his website.
Our Father, above us and all around us,
May your unspeakable Name be revered.
Here to earth, may your kingdom come.
Here on earth, may your will be done as it is in heaven.
Give us today our bread for today.
And forgive us our wrongs as we forgive those who wrong us.
Lead us away from the time of trial.
But liberate us from the evil.
For the kingdom is yours and yours alone,
And the power is yours and yours alone,
And the glory is yours and yours alone.
Amen.
