Hospitality (comments on John 6:11-13)
When Jesus fed the crowd, he was imitating his Abba (Daddy/God) whose desire is that all be fed. His was a generous hospitality, an inclusive hospitality and a dangerous hospitality. Picnics like this threatened religious, political and cultural authority. Such events marked Jesus as a danger to all that those in Power held dear. He was even seen as a threat to peace, although he was totally without violence. No wonder he was crucified the way the Romans dealt with subversive enemies of Empire. But love wins! The kingdom and the power and the glory belong to Jesus.
Our response: Be people of the Jesus Kingdom Be generous. Share food. Welcome all.
