The Lenten season has arrived and Isaiah’s Table has begun a new prayer practice with the Presbytery of Cayuga-Syracuse. As we’ve gotten to know our new neighborhood and neighbors these past 18 months, we are feeling God’s call to do another new thing. We’ve found that a large portion of our neighbors are Spanish speaking. When they join us for breakfast, worship or bible study, they are not able to fully participate because none of our congregation speak Spanish. So, this dream for a brand new, Presbyterian-flavored, Spanish speaking, Worshiping Community has been perceived by our leadership.
We have networked through the 1001 NWC Initiative nationally including attending the national gathering in Kansas City in October. We’ve identified grant sources from the PCUSA. We’ve engaged the Synod as well. The leadership of Isaiah’s Table has committed to letting this new community use our space rent-free. Additionally we have pledged to share a significant portion of our savings account for this new ministry. The next step is identifying a Spanish speaking church planter who will come to Syracuse to meet neighbors. Then, together with the neighbors we can discern what new thing God is doing in Syracuse in our pariticular neighborhood. Perhaps a new worshiping community will be born!
We want this new thing to have a firm foundation of prayer. So therefore we came up with an idea of a prayer campaign around identifying a leader for this new initiative. Attached is a Prayer Campaign that we hope you will consider using.
In addition, on Wednesday nights for Spiritual Nurture we will be engaging in a video study called The Ridiculous Journey: Following a Nobody from Nowhere. This study combines bible study with spiritual practice.
Blessings to you,
Nancy, Ministry Coordinator
