We are happy to announce our new partnership with a worshiping community in New Orleans, LA called Okra Abbey. We will be partnering with them for monthly phone conversations and hopefully, a mission trip to visit their unique ministry.
Isaiah’s Table’s ministry coordinator, Nancy Wind met pastors Layne and Crawford Brubaker (ministers at Okra Abbey) at a PCUSA conference in January and then again in August at the 1001 New Worshiping Communities conference. Noting their similar missions, Nancy approached the Brubakers suggesting a “coaching arrangement”, since Isaiah’s Table no longer has a 1001 NWC coach (our three year cycle with Coach, Chris Brown ended in 2016). Isaiah’s Table will make a monetary donation to Okra Abbey in exchange for monthly conversations with the pastors.
The really great thing about this relationship is learning will go two ways. Isaiah’s Table is four years older than Okra Abbey, so we have the benefit of experience to offer the new worshiping community. They have the gift of two pastors and a garden specialist to help Isaiah’s Table. It’s, as they say, “a match made in heaven”.
